South African fire regulations generally require a minimum separation distance of 5 metres between two separate tents, or between a tent and an adjacent building, unless the structures are directly joined. This spacing helps reduce the risk of fire spreading and ensures safe access for emergency services.
Understand Local Requirements
Larger public events may require permits, structural approvals or compliance with municipal regulations.
Within the City of Cape Town, events held in public spaces may require a full event permit, and stretch tents exceeding 100m² may require Building Development Management (BDM) certification before they can be used. Requirements vary depending on the event and venue, so it’s important to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for approvals.
